Overview of Dollar Store Plus MORE Corporate Cares Policy

Dollar Store Plus MORE serves families in Bolingbrook, Illinois.  We are committed to the community we serve, not only by offering quality merchandise at lowest possible prices, but also by supporting the non-profit organizations that seek to improve the quality of life of our customers and others.

To maximize the impact of our charitable contributions, Dollar Store Plus MORE’s Corporate Cares program currently is focused exclusively upon programs whose purpose is to provide the basic necessities of life, including food, clothing and shelter, to low-income and low-middle income families, including senior citizens, minorities and at-risk youth, primarily in the neighborhoods of where the store operates.

Contribution Criteria

To be eligible to receive a contribution from Dollar Store Plus MORE, the requesting organization must be:
  • Organizations with current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), (4), (6), or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code and must be listed in the most current IRS 50 State Master File at the time of application.
  • Recognized government entities: State, County and City agencies, including law enforcement and fire departments.
  • Volunteer Fire Departments with current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or that operate as an entity of a recognized government agency, as demonstrated by primary funding and documented by a letter from that agency.

  • Churches and other faith based organizations with propose projects that address and benefit the needs of the community at large. Examples of such projects include:
    • Food Banks
    • Shelters
    • Job Skills Training
Generally, the purpose of the organization, event or program must be to provide goods or services for low-income and low-middle income persons in need, and the organization, event or program must benefit persons or community served by Dollar Store Plus MORE.

General Limitations and Exclusions

We believe our contributions should be consistent with both our commitment to our community.  Consequently, our budget for charitable contributions is reallocated each fiscal year and will be reviewed quarterly against the Company’s financial performance.  While we encourage organizations to submit a request based on their needs, our typical grant is $250.  This enables us to maximize our support of local programs in the neighborhoods in which we operate.

To maximize the impact of our charitable giving within our budgetary limits, we will limit our contributions to one grant per organization per fiscal year (July - June), and we will not provide repetitive annual grants or continuing support for organizations or programs.  We will review requests from organizations that have received previous support from Dollar Store Plus MORE as new requests and will evaluate the request in relation to other submitted proposals and budgetary considerations.

Our contribution efforts will be focused in the neighborhoods in which we operate.  Consequently, Dollar Store Plus MORE will limit our support of national social service organizations, such as the United Way.

No support will be extended to religious activities or programs that serve, or appear to serve, specific religious groups or denominations.  However, if a proposal submitted by a church-based or similar organization falls clearly within program guidelines and is intended to serve a broad segment of the community as the program of a comparable non-religious organization, we will consider the request on the same basis as any other request.

While Dollar Store Plus MORE believes in the value of all charitable endeavors, generally our contributions program will not provide funds for:
  • American Cancer Society
  • American Diabetes Association
  • American Heart Association
  • Children’s Miracle Network
  • United Way
  • Contests or pageants
  • Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns
  • Advertising, film or video projects
  • Program advertising or marketing venues
  • Individuals
  • Athletic sponsorships
  • Tickets for contests, raffles, or other activities with prizes

  • Organizations whose services are limited to its members
  • Projects that send products or people for relief efforts to a foreign country
  • Organizations or programs outside the communities we serve or outside the U.S.

  • Organizations that fax, phone (telemarket), or mail applications to our stores or clubs
  • Organizations or fundraisers that intend to retain more than 25% of the grant funding
  • Churches and other faith-based organizations to purchase real estate, equipment, or supplies; or sponsor programs or projects, to benefit only the organization or its members. Examples of such projects include:
    • Youth groups
    • Mission trips
    • Sunday school supplies
We work hard to provide our customers with low-priced, quality merchandise.  Consequently, Dollar Store Plus MORE will not offer additional discounts on store merchandise.
